| I am fortunate enough to work for Cranfield Golf Academy at their base at Rustington Golf Centre. I have worked for the UK's number 1 golf academy for 6 years now and has been of huge benefit to me on many levels and am particularly fortunate to work at the golf centre i do which has an amazing facility to cover every aspect of the game with my pupils as well as running full day and 2-3 day courses. Working with Cranfield Golf Academy(CGA) has had a big influence on shaping my thinking relating to coaching and performance over that time, particularly with regard to the huge number of ways that as a coach i can influence change in my pupils. | | | One instance will stand out as a turning point in my thinking and it was during a lesson i was having myself with my now boss, Scott Cranfield, just before i joined the Academy as a coach. At this stage i was still trying to pursue a playing career. Scott had established that i was quite a left brained, analytical thinker during our assessment(which i am) and that this was causing interference and not allowing me to swing freely(which i wasn't). He then gave me an inner game exercise that involved making a steady humming noise as i swung the club to reduce the clutter(far out i know). I decided to committ to this fully and what happened was that in the next 2 weeks i shot 3 under par round Carnoustie with no bogies in a tournament(the most control i have ever had on a golf ball) and then won my first pro am the following week ( 5 under 65). To say that it raised a few questions would be an understatement. And since then there have been many more similar to that where if we have some committment and an open mind, then we can access that place where great golf happens more often than we think.
